The following letters have been written by students of BRZEE Academy and checked by an IELTS BRZEE Trainer.

Sample letter question 1: Write a letter to the municipal corporation for the filthy condition of street

  • Explain the reason for the street becoming so filthy
  • What are the pertinent problems it has currently caused?
  • Suggest possible ways of overcoming the problem.
  • Dear Sir/Ma’am,

I would like to bring to your attention to the deplorable conditions in the Vijay Nagar area where the garbage has not been collected from the past few days. The heap of waste which has been accumulated on the roadside has inevitably made walking on the street difficult. The stench has attracted stray animals to scavenge the trash for food. There is always a foul smell from the clogged and dirty drains which have not been cleaned from a long time.

The place has become extremely unhygienic and breeding ground for mosquitoes. Also, there is an alarming surge in the pollution levels, because of which people residing or working in this vicinity are falling prey to life threatening diseases.

It is my earnest request that area should be cleaned as soon as possible by removing the garbage, clearing the clogged drains and installation of large dustbins, which should be emptied regularly. Proper fencing should be done around the rural areas so as to prevent cattle from roaming and dirtying the place. Also, the sweepers must be ordered to be regular and punctual.

I hope you will take all the necessary measures and help the local residents in keeping the area clean again.

I look forward to an immediate action.

Yours faithfully,

Ritika Chopra

Sample letter question 2: You went to dine out in a restaurant and the experience there was a horrible one. So, you have thought of writing a letter to the manager of the restaurant regarding what actually happened. Things to include-

  • Describe what actually took place.
  • Ask for your refund.
  • Inform of the action which would be take in case the refund is not done.

Dear Sir/ Ma’am,

I am writing this letter to express my dissatisfaction with the service in your restaurant.

Last Sunday, I visited this esteemed establishment along with my family for the first time. The ambience of the place greatly influenced us with its perfect lighting, soothing music and comfortable furniture. But as soon as the food was served and we started eating, we felt terrible. The food tasted extremely awful because it was not only undercooked but also appeared rotten. We informed the waiter immediately and asked him to replace it, but to our dismay, he refused it right away.

We were not expecting such an experience from a reputed restaurant like yours. In spite of our request for replacement of food, the dish was not changed and when the waiter placed the bill on the table, we refused to pay. But the waiter was adamant to receive the payment. We had no option left but to foot the bill. To our utter surprise, nobody from the staff had the courtesy to intervene and speak on our behalf. I hereby request you to refund our payment made as we hardly ate anything.

Moreover, I am sorry to say that if the refund is not done in 7 days, we will be forced to take a legal action.

Hope you will treat the matter seriously

Yours faithfully,

Ritika Chopra

Sample letter question 3: Your brother is unable to come to a holiday which you have planned. Write a letter to your friend in order to invite him/her and ask him to join this trip. Please say:

  • When and which place do you plan to go
  • Why is it that your brother is unable to come?
  • Give a brief description of the holiday tour.

Dear Sheetal,

Hope you are doing well. The reason I am writing is because I want you to accompany us in our upcoming trip.

We have organized a tour of Rann of Kutch, Gujarat which is also known as the white desert of India. The trip has been planned especially for the month of December because we all would be having a week off due to Christmas and New Year eve.

In fact, my brother was expected to join us but due to the busy season in his office, he is unable to make it for the trip. We have already booked a private luxurious sleeper bus for our travel and now we are left with one vacant seat. The bus would depart from Gurgaon on December 16th 2019 at 8 PM. I would be highly pleased if you could come along with us.

To make our trip memorable, we have booked special tents from where we will witness the full moon. Watching the white sand sparkle on a full moon night is one of a lifetime experience. Moreover, there is a special cultural program particularly, held from December-February known as ‘Rann Utsav’ which brings us close to the heritage and traditions of Gujarat.

I invite you to experience this amazing expedition and enjoy each and every moment of it.  I would be delighted to have you on board with us.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Ritika
